L1e / L3e Categories & Documents
What is the difference between the L1e and L3e versions?
In most cases, there are no technical differences, except for software limits on speed/power and the documentation for different vehicle categories. For example, the E-Ride Pro SR L1e and L3e are technically identical; the difference is only in the documents supplied.
Can one bike come with documents for both L1e and L3e?
No. A bike is supplied with one set of documents only. The bike also has a metal identification plate showing its category. Registering a single vehicle in two categories is not possible.
What does L1e or L3e mean as a vehicle category?
L1e can be ridden with an AM license or category B, and it is limited to 45 km/h. L3e requires at least an A1 motorcycle license (or higher) and is not legally limited to 45 km/h (top speed depends on the model/manufacturer settings).
Can all bikes be used on public roads?
No. Only bikes with road certification in the L1e or L3e category can be used legally on public roads. Other models are for off-road riding, private property, or closed sporting events.
Driving Licence
What licence category do I need to ride an electric motorcycle?
For L1e, an AM licence (or category B) is sufficient. For L3e, you need a motorcycle licence such as A1, A2, or A.
Charging
How do I charge the bike, and what type of outlet do I need?
The bike charges from a standard household 220V outlet.
Range & Energy Consumption
What range can I expect from an electric motorcycle?
Average energy consumption is around 0.04 kWh per km at 45 km/h. With a 4 kWh battery, expected range is about 100 km. With a 2 kWh battery, expected range is about 50 km.
What affects the bike’s energy consumption and range?
Many factors influence range: speed, rider weight, elevation/gradient, tire pressure, and more. One of the most important factors is speed—if you double your speed, energy consumption can increase by roughly four times.
Battery: Water Resistance, Lifespan & Care
Is the battery water-resistant? Can I wash the bike with a pressure washer?
Yes, the battery is rated IP67, but full immersion is not recommended. Pressure washers can force water into the battery case and connectors, so we strongly recommend removing the battery before pressure washing. Always follow the care instructions for your specific model.
How long does the battery last before noticeable degradation?
Approximately 500–600 full charge cycles, or about 50,000–60,000 km until the battery loses around 20% of its original capacity. Proper care helps extend battery life.
How can I extend battery lifespan?
Try to operate the battery mainly between 20% and 90%, and only charge above 90% shortly before riding. Avoid storing the battery above 75% for long periods. Do not charge at sub-zero temperatures, avoid storing above 25°C, and let the battery cool down after heavy riding before charging.
Top Speed & Limits
What is the maximum speed of an electric motorcycle?
L1e models are software-limited to 45 km/h. L3e models have manufacturer-defined limits depending on the specific model.
